Karen Igho on-air personality at Naija FM 102.7

Karen returns home after doing Nigeria proud on Big Brother Africa 2011
Karen Igho has taken up an offer to become an on-air personality at Naija FM 102.7, a Lagos-based pidgin English-style radio station owned by Megalectrics.
And it’s a smart one for both parties – Naija FM is working hard to grab a big share in a market currently dominated by the Cool FM-owned Wazobia FM, so bringing a down-to-earth and extremely popular entertainer like Karen could work the magic. And Karen, a Big Brother alumnus, who’s eager to entrench her feet in the industry, will now have an opportunity to prove to critics she can build a stable career and move past the Big Brother glory.
Megalectrics, the company that owns Naija FM also owns Beat FM and Classic FM. Beat is currently Lagosians’ preferred FM station, and the Chris Ubosi-led team are keen to rework the magic with Naija FM.
No words yet from both parties, but we’ve been assured by very reliable sources, who are aware of the deal details, that ‘everything has been sealed’.
Karen will have her own show at the station where Gbemi Olateru-Olagbegi is programmes director.
‘Talks have been on for sometime’ one insider tells us, citing instances when Karen asked friends for advise, after visiting the Megalectrics office in Lagos. ‘But both parties have now agreed and she can’t wait to start…’

Waoh Modupe ‘Mo’Cheddah‘

It’s her first big move since leaving her former label and everyone has been anticipating what Modupe ‘Mo’Cheddah‘ Oyeyemi’s post-knighthouse re-introduction will look and sound like.
Now signed to Cheddah Music, the young pop diva has been in the lab recording for months and finally has something to offer her fans – let’s go in…
Her new single ‘Louder’ clearly won’t do much for her; her vocals rely too much on the auto-tune effect which badly affects her melody whenever she pitches. The theme of louder falls under the techno genre and will make its way to the clubs. Its shallow lyrics will however make sure it never leaves there.
We are not entirely sure what concept Mo’ is trying to create with the video neither do we know who the target market is any more. Shot in South Africa and directed by Brandon, Mo’ keeps it an all-white affair as she tries to pull a Katy Perry on us.
For an African pop singer who is trying to shoot up the diva pyramid, this, sadly, isn’t working.

D'banj set to launch his own record label; calls it DKM Records

DKM stands for D'Koko Master Records and Kayswitch is the only artiste signed to the record label for now. Heard a few more artistes will be unveiled in the coming months.

D'Koko Master Records will be officially launched in Lagos at a concert that will feature D'banj, Kayswitch and other DKM artists.

And contrary to popular reports that Davido is signed to D'banj's label, I can confirm to you that it is false. Davido is signed to his own record label, HKN Records. He's only doing some musical collaborations with D'banj

PHOTOS: Wizkid receives MOBO plaque

EME boys Skales and Banky watch Wizkid recieve his MOBO Award
He won the MOBO Award for the ‘Best African Act’ back in October 2011 beating the likes of Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti and African pop heavyweight D’banj but Wizkid wasn’t in the UK to personally receive his award.
He finally did so a few days back while performing on stage at the HMV Hammersmith Apollo, UK in the presence of his EME crew Banky W and Skales and of course the thousands of fans who came to watch him perform…
