Stowaway boy thought Arik plane was US-bound’
THE
teenage stowaway, Daniel Ihekina, who was arrested at the Lagos Airport
after flying in the tyre hole of an Arik plane from Benin to Lagos on
Saturday morning, thought he was on a US-bound flight.
A source at the Benin Airport who
disclosed this said the boy’s parents had already departed for Lagos in
search of the stowaway.
The airport source, who did not want his
name in print said, “From what we heard, the boy said he was being
maltreated and tried to escape from his parents. He thought he was on
his way to the US.
“The parents have travelled to Lagos by road, to get him back.”
Meanwhile, investigations conducted by
one of our correspondents in Lagos revealed that the boy had been handed
over to the operatives of the State Security Services for further
investigation.
The General Manager, Corporate
Communications, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, Mr. Yakubu Dati,
who also confirmed the development, said the aviation security personnel
of the agency had handed over the young voyager to the men of the SSS
for extensive investigation.
Dati said, “The residential address the
boy gave to us was traced to a church in Benin by our airport manager
and his team. So, there is need to hand over the teenager to the SSS who
are experts in such investigations. They will carry out further
investigation on the matter.”
The FAAN spokesman said the nature and
circumstances surrounding the crime informed the agency decision to hand
over the stowaway to the SSS operatives.
Meanwhile, following the Benin Airport
incident, FAAN has adopted the ‘risk amelioration processes to safeguard
flight operations’ at all its 22 airports across the country.
Dati stressed that the agency had tightened its risk amelioration procedure to ensure that similar incident did not occur again.
He also said the agency had prioritised the perimeter fencing of all the 22 airports in the country.
“In the meantime, we have adopted risk
amelioration processes to safeguard flight operations. As a result of
this incident in Benin, we have further tightened our risk amelioration
procedure to ensure that a similar incident does not occur,” he said.

When
Eniola Kiyesola left home for work on August 18, 2013, he bade his wife

This was, however, not to be as the 36-year-old man was beaten to death by land grabbers few hours after he left his house.
PUNCH Metro learnt that Kiyesola had gone to a construction site to supervise an ongoing work when about five land grabbers stormed the site.
The culprits were said to have demanded N5, 000 from Kiyesola, adding that if he did not pay them, they would prevent labourers from working.
A relative of the deceased, Mr Sola Solebo, said,
A labourer, Yusuf Olatundun, who claimed to be an eyewitness, said the culprits beat Kiyesola for over an hour.

“On that day, Kiyesola went to supervise construction at the site.
After sometime, about five hoodlums from Omo Ebi Bagidan Village, led by one Babu and Kazeem, stormed the site and demanded money.
Kiyesola reminded them that the owner of the property had given them money when the foundation of the building was being laid.
The land grabbers then demanded N5, 000 so that they would leave. However, Kiyesola told them that he could not give them any money and told them to come back when the owner of the property was around.
There was an exchange of words and the hoodlums picked up iron rods and beat him up.”
A labourer, Yusuf Olatundun, who claimed to be an eyewitness, said the culprits beat Kiyesola for over an hour.
Olatundun, a bricklayer, said:
About 15 of us were working on the site when those land grabbers came. The land grabbers said they had an axe to grind with the architect. Some of us rushed to Ijede Police Division to report the matter.
“After beating Kiyesola for over an hour, he collapsed. When he became unconscious, the guys fled. When the police arrived we rushed Kiyesola to General Hospital, Ijede where he was confirmed dead.”PUNCH Metro learnt that the traditional leader of Omo Ebi Bagidan Village, Sunday Basorun, who was alleged to have employed the culprits to collect land dues for him, had been arrested.

Why I Need A New Wife Now ––Pastor Anselm Madubuko
One year after losing his wife, Apostle Anselm Madubuko of Revival
Assembly Church is getting married to a 33-year-old Kenyan gospel
singer, Emmy Kosgei. But people are beginning to ask questions, if one
year is not too short for him to move on with another woman.
Pastor Anselm has a contrary opinion. See the reasons he give below:
Pastor Anselm has a contrary opinion. See the reasons he give below:
"It is how I have chosen to do it. I have decided to
move on. I found out that even 10 years will not be enough to forget my
late wife. 20 years still will not be enough to forget my late wife. The
time anybody remarries has nothing to do with your former partner. And
that's one thing people fail to understand. We were married for many
years and suddenly I was left alone. It's about many things, companionship.
"Once that person close to you goes, you can never forget the person. It
is a matter of picking up one's pieces and moving on. I can't forget
Connie, she was my life, it's just about moving on. I don't listen to
people. If you re-marry or don't re-marry people must talk.
"I thought I wasn't going to re-marry but God said that is not his plans
for me. He chose Emmy Kosgei for me. I chose to trust God more than my
mind. I am looking forward to having more children," he told Encomium
magazine.

Conflicting reports on Boko Haram commander death
© Getty Images
There have been conflicting reports on the death of a high ranking
Boko Haram commander after an encounter with the Nigerian army.
A statement by the Defence Headquarters made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) said that Bama's death had also been corroborated by other terrorists captured by troops.
It said that Bama was killed, following an encounter between troops and terrorists around the Bama corridor, near Maiduguri in Borno.
According to the statement, the troops have continued to intensify pursuit of terrorists who have been unleashing mayhem in Borno and Yobe.
It said that Bama had been personally leading attacks against troops and innocent citizens in communities in Yobe and Adamawa.
"A specialist in manning the anti-aircraft guns of the group, he is known to be vicious and heartless with a penchant for personally slaughtering and executing his victims.
"Bama has been a most wanted terrorist with a N25 million bounty already placed on his head."
The statement named other people who died in the operation as Bama’s father, Alhaji Abatcha Flatari, "who is also one of the spiritual guiding lights of the out-lawed terrorists group".
It added that 17 other terrorists also lost their lives in the encounter, while 24 were captured.
The statement said that troops were continuing the pursuit of the terrorists, while intensifying aggressive aerial and land patrols to ensure better security cover for communities in the two states.
It had previously been reported that Muhammed Bama and Abubakar Zakariya Yau had been killed in Adamawa after a shoot out between suspected Boko Haram members and the army in Adamawa.

Afe Babalola University students deplore increase in their school fees
I've been getting quite a number of emails from students of Afe Babalola University,
Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti state bemoaning the recent increase in their school
fees. According to the students, the school outrageously increased their
fees for the 2013/2014 academic session by over 40%. The students got a
notice yesterday Monday August 12th informing them of the increase
which they say is 'unfair'. For instance Engineering and Law students
paid N695,000 last semester but the new fee for this semester is
N1,095,000, N695,000 for social and management
college and sciences, N1, 200 000 for medicine students, some fees went
from N755,000 to N 1,245,000 and so on.
Some students are saying no reduction, no resumption. Below is a broadcast that was sent out

Boko Haram Leader Shekau Dares Obama, Says Obama Is No Match For Him
Despite being declared a global terrorist and a $7million reward placed on him by the United States (US), Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau is still talking tough.
And this is coming after in yet another bizarre occurrence, suspected members of the violent Islamic sect, Boko Haram gunned down 44 people praying in a mosque in Borno State last Sunday.
In a new video obtained by Agence France Presse (AFP), Shekau dared US President Barack Obama, French President Francois Hollande and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to come for him, saying: “They are no match for me.”
Speaking in Hausa language, Shekau said:
You soldiers have claimed that you are powerful, that we have been defeated, that we are mad people. But how can a mad man successfully coordinate recent attacks in Gamboru, in Malam Fatori, slaughter people in Biu, kill in Gwoza and in Bama, where soldiers fled under our heavy fire power?
We have killed countless soldiers and we are going to kill more. We can now comfortably confront the United States of America. You have not killed Shekau.I’m challenging Obama,” Shekau continued in the video. He also voiced similar challenges to French President Francois Hollande and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“They are no match for me,” he proclaimed.
Shekau had one time urged like-minded Islamists in countries, such as Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq to support the sect’s war towards enthroning an Islamic state in Nigeria.

Moscow 2013: Okagbare Blessing finishes 6th in 100m
Okagabare |
Hopes of having Nigeria’s sprint sensation, Blessing Okagbare, make it to the podium in the women’s 100m event was dashed on Monday evening as she could only manage a disappointing 6th place finish after posting a time of 11.04seconds in the final.
The 100m event was won by Jamaica’s Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, who finished in a world leading time of 10.71secs.
Fraser-Pryce produced an amazing display
to complete a Jamaican 100m double. The 26-year-old set a world leading
time of 10.71secs for a commanding win which followed hot on the heels
of compatriot Usain Bolt, who took the men’s 100m title on Sunday.
It was also a similar scenario at the
London Olympics when Okagabare showed tremendous form going to the final
of the 100m event, only to falter when it mattered most.
Okagbare, who won a silver medal in the
women’s long jump event on Sunday to end Nigeria’s 14-year wait for a
medal in the world championships, began the race on a slow note and
never recovered.
Nigeria will now turn her attention to
the 200m, where Okagbare is also competing, and the 4x100m relays, where
many believe there is a slim chance of Nigeria winning a medal.
Meanwhile, Africa took consolation in
Ivorian, Murielle Ahoure, who came second in 10.93secs to give Ivory
Coast its first world championships medal while defending world
champion, Carmelita Jeter of the US, was third in 10.94.
From the moment Fraser-Pryce shot out of
the blocks, there was only going to be one winner and her rivals were
left watching the soles of her bright pink spikes and matching hair
colours as she powered to the finish line.
Tonto Dikeh Breaks Down Her Attempted Suicide [DETAILS]
Remember I told you guys on Monday that beautiful Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh attempted suicide due
to certain personal issues? Well, the actress, who has now decided to
move on despite the heartbreak due to failed promises/love, is now going

Tonto Dikeh said a lot about what has happened. See her revelations below:
Killers of soldiers, policemen arrested in Yobe – JTF
Operatives of the Joint Task Force have arrested four suspected members of the Boko Haram insurgents at Gonori town in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State
Investigation conducted by our correspondent revealed that the four suspected insurgents were arrested during a house-to-house search, conducted by the JTF in Gonori, following intelligence report that the insurgents, who carried out a surprise attack on a JTF roadblock, were in a hideout in the town.
It was learnt that the JTF efforts paid off, when four of those suspected to have taken part in the attack on the JTF checkpoint, were arrested at the hideout.
The Director of Defence Information, Brig.-Gen. Chris Olukolade, confirmed the arrest of the insurgents in a telephone interview with our correspondent on Monday.
Olukolade said the four terror suspects were caught in Gonori during a house-to-house search in the area.
Although the Defence spokesman did not give further information on the military operation that led to the arrest of the insurgents, a security source said some of the suspected insurgents were also killed in a shootout with security forces.
Olukolade told our correspondent that he was not aware of any such confrontation that led to the killing of suspected insurgents on Monday.
Some suspected members of the Boko Haram sect had opened fire on JTF operatives at a roadblock at Gonori town, 50 kilometres from Damaturu, the state capital, on Tuesday.
The surprise attack resulted in the killing four soldiers and two policemen.
It was learnt that about 20 suspected insurgents, wielding AK 47 assault rifles, launched the attack on the checkpoint in the evening of Tuesday when the security personnel were said to be more relaxed.

Guys, the last one year 5months has been incredibly exceptional for me. All cos I have you in my life.

So in honor of my birthday, I want to share with you some of the lessons life as a blogger has taught
me. Sometimes the hard way.
There's so much love in the universe. including inside yourself. Enough to keep us on our feet during the bad days. If only we can believe in ourselves.
Don't be afraid to try to make your life an exciting one. Don't let life happen to you.
Walk on fire if you have to. by that I mean take the scary positive risks you might regret not going for.
Help others, never be stingy, not even with kind words.
Keep reaching out to people. some may reject you, some may be unkind and shaming, but there will be angels.

Oprah Winfrey and best friend Gayle King ahead of Tina Turner and Erwin Bach's wedding celebrations in Zurich, Switzerland |
Oprah Winfrey was in Zurich to attend Tina Turner's wedding when the incident happened.
And it occurred in the chic 'Trois Pommes' store whose owner, Trudie Götz, was also a guest at the Turner nuptials.
Winfrey was able to embarrass the store which refused her service on U.S. TV.
She told Entertainment Tonight:
'I was in Zurich the other day, in a store whose name I will not mention. I didn't have my eyelashes on, but I was in full Oprah Winfrey gear. I had my little Donna Karan skirt and my little sandals. But obviously 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' is not shown in Zurich.
'I go into a store and I say to the woman, 'Excuse me, could I see the bag right above your head?' and she says to me, 'No. It's too expensive.''
