Riot at Anambra State University after two students are shot dead by robbers

There was riot in Igbariam campus in Anambra State University this morning. Heard things have died down a bit. According to unconfirmed reports which I am getting from students of the school, who are also sending in photos, armed robbers invaded the students' lodge last night to rob and they ended up shooting quite a few students. One student died last night, while another one who was shot died early this morning in the hospital.

Some students decided the best way to respond to the incident was to riot against the school and state government, blaming lack of security for their fellow students' deaths. 

Students say they pay N135,000 per session for new students and 107,000 for old students and still don't have security or even a functioning hospital, plus no light!

The rioting students went on the streets insisting on speaking with Governor Peter Obi. The students calmed down after the school Vice Chancellor addressed them about an hour ago.

Laide Bakare's estranged first husband says he's the father of her new baby boy

Laide Bakare welcomed a baby boy on Friday May 31 in New York and now her estranged first husband, Olumide Okunfulure (pictured above with her) is claiming he's the baby daddy. The thing; Laide Bakare is married to another man, Tunde Oriowo.

The first husband, Olumide, is claiming he was still married to Laide when she fell pregnant and quit their marriage controversially without hinting him. He's basically saying he's had intercourse with Laide in the last nine months and says he's the biological father of the baby boy.

Speaking from his base in Washington DC, the Ile-Oluji, Ondo State born businessman said:

"I heard that my wife delivered a baby boy barely two months after she made a release that we were divorced, and she's saying that the baby belongs to one Mr. Tunde Oriowo. That's a lie, wicked lie. I'm the biological father. I have pictures to show that we were always together, but she deliberately kept the pregnancy out of my knowledge."

Mr Universe Nigeria, 2013 - Pius Marcus

24 year old Pius Marcus from Edo State beat 33 other male contestants to win the 2013 Mr Universe Nigeria which took place on Saturday June 1st in Lagos. Pius is a 300L student of Fine Arts, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife.

The new Mr. Universe Nigeria went home with a brand new Honda Accord and will represent Nigeria at the upcoming Mr. Universe Model Pageant in Dominican Republic.

Michael Jackson's daughter rushed to the hospital after possible suicide attempt

According to a report by TMZ, late Michael Jackson's daughter, Paris Jackson, 15, was rushed to the hospital early this morning after a possible suicide attempt. Below is how they are reporting it...

Paris Jackson was rushed to the hospital early Wednesday morning, and sources tell us it was a suicide attempt. Paris was taken out of her Calabasas family house on a stretcher at around 2 AM and taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital. The 911 call came in at 1:27 AM. We're told the caller reported a possible overdose, although a source connected to the emergency response said there were multiple cuts on one of her wrists.On Tuesday night ... Paris posted some cryptic tweets, including, "I wonder why tears are salty?" ... and "yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away now it looks as though they're here to stay." We're told she's doing OK

Monday Morning Banter: Life in The Danfo Lane

I walked into the office this morning and someone (who has begged me to protect his identity) was drinking some strong smelling tea. His response to my raised eyebrow was “herbal tea! It’s medicinal”. The look on his face got me laughing crazily. “You sound like you’re trying to convince me… like those guys in the danfos and molues in Lagos”.

If you’ve ever used the public transport system in Lagos you would be familiar with these words “Ginseng powder! It will clear your bladder. If you want to give your wife well well… just drink it. It will make you strong gidigba. It will make your problems go away“. There is nothing that’s not sold in the bus: bleach, pot cleaner, medicated soap, drugs, alligator pepper. Honestly, I’m not making this up.

Just after secondary school, I got a job in the cash office of a gas marketing company so I’d take the early morning bus from Mile II to Wharf and the traders are there. The kind of aggressive marketing that takes place on commercial buses in Lagos can be taught as a course at the Lagos Business School. The only rivals to the aggressive marketers are the aggressive preachers. They would preach from CMS to Mile II, pausing intermittently to share fliers and glare at the unresponsive passengers.

Because, we’re traditionally religious, most people join in the praise and worship session. Sometimes, the preacher has extra tambourines to share to the newly acquired congregation. After the praise and worship session, the sermon will begin. The preacher could usually tell the people imbued with the spirit of the devil as they’re the ones staring out of the window (like yours truly). Actually, I liked to keep my eyes open to see if the preacher would pay his fare especially as the bus conductor (also imbued with the spirit of the devil) wouldn’t stop his job and join in the prayer.
