Killers of soldiers, policemen arrested in Yobe – JTF

Operatives of the Joint Task Force have arrested four suspected members of the Boko Haram insurgents at Gonori town in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State

Investigation conducted by our correspondent revealed that the four suspected insurgents were arrested during a house-to-house search, conducted by the JTF in Gonori, following intelligence report that the insurgents, who carried out a surprise attack on a JTF roadblock, were in a hideout in the town.

It was learnt that the JTF efforts paid off, when four of those suspected to have taken part in the attack on the JTF checkpoint, were arrested at the hideout.

The Director of Defence Information, Brig.-Gen. Chris Olukolade, confirmed the arrest of the insurgents in a telephone interview with our correspondent on Monday.

Olukolade said the four terror suspects were caught in Gonori during a house-to-house search in the area.

Although the Defence spokesman did not give further information on the military operation that led to the arrest of the insurgents, a security source said some of the suspected insurgents were also killed in a shootout with security forces.

Olukolade told our correspondent that he was not aware of any such confrontation that led to the killing of suspected insurgents on Monday.

Some suspected members of the Boko Haram sect had opened fire on JTF operatives at a roadblock at Gonori town, 50 kilometres from Damaturu, the state capital, on Tuesday.

The surprise attack resulted in the  killing four soldiers and two policemen.

It was learnt that about 20 suspected insurgents, wielding AK 47 assault rifles, launched the attack on the checkpoint in the evening of Tuesday when the security personnel were said to be more relaxed.
