Moscow 2013: Okagbare Blessing finishes 6th in 100m

Hopes of having Nigeria’s sprint sensation, Blessing Okagbare, make it to the podium in the women’s 100m event was dashed on Monday evening as she could only manage a disappointing 6th place finish after posting a time of 11.04seconds in the final.

The 100m event was won by Jamaica’s Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, who finished in a world leading time of 10.71secs.

Fraser-Pryce produced an amazing display to complete a Jamaican 100m double. The 26-year-old set a world leading time of 10.71secs for a commanding win which followed hot on the heels of compatriot Usain Bolt, who took the men’s 100m title on Sunday.

It was also a similar scenario at the London Olympics when Okagabare showed tremendous form going to the final of the 100m event, only to falter when it mattered most.

Okagbare, who won a silver medal in the women’s long jump event on Sunday to end Nigeria’s 14-year wait for a medal in the world championships, began the race on a slow note and never recovered.

Nigeria will now turn her attention to the 200m, where Okagbare is also competing, and the 4x100m relays, where many believe there is a slim chance of Nigeria winning a medal.

Meanwhile, Africa took consolation in Ivorian, Murielle Ahoure, who came second in 10.93secs to give Ivory Coast its first world championships medal while defending world champion, Carmelita Jeter of the US, was third in 10.94.

From the moment Fraser-Pryce shot out of the blocks, there was only going to be one winner and her rivals were left watching the soles of her bright pink spikes and matching hair colours as she powered to the finish line.

Killers of soldiers, policemen arrested in Yobe – JTF

Operatives of the Joint Task Force have arrested four suspected members of the Boko Haram insurgents at Gonori town in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State

Investigation conducted by our correspondent revealed that the four suspected insurgents were arrested during a house-to-house search, conducted by the JTF in Gonori, following intelligence report that the insurgents, who carried out a surprise attack on a JTF roadblock, were in a hideout in the town.

It was learnt that the JTF efforts paid off, when four of those suspected to have taken part in the attack on the JTF checkpoint, were arrested at the hideout.

The Director of Defence Information, Brig.-Gen. Chris Olukolade, confirmed the arrest of the insurgents in a telephone interview with our correspondent on Monday.

Olukolade said the four terror suspects were caught in Gonori during a house-to-house search in the area.

Although the Defence spokesman did not give further information on the military operation that led to the arrest of the insurgents, a security source said some of the suspected insurgents were also killed in a shootout with security forces.

Olukolade told our correspondent that he was not aware of any such confrontation that led to the killing of suspected insurgents on Monday.

Some suspected members of the Boko Haram sect had opened fire on JTF operatives at a roadblock at Gonori town, 50 kilometres from Damaturu, the state capital, on Tuesday.

The surprise attack resulted in the  killing four soldiers and two policemen.

It was learnt that about 20 suspected insurgents, wielding AK 47 assault rifles, launched the attack on the checkpoint in the evening of Tuesday when the security personnel were said to be more relaxed.

So in honor of my birthday, I want to share with you some of the lessons life as a blogger has taught
me. Sometimes the hard way.

There's so much love in the universe. including inside yourself. Enough to keep us on our feet during the bad days. If only we can believe in ourselves.

Don't be afraid to try to make your life an exciting one. Don't let life happen to you.
Walk on fire if you have to. by that I mean take the scary positive risks you might regret not going for.

Help others, never be stingy, not even with kind words.
Keep reaching out to people. some may reject you, some may be unkind and shaming, but there will be angels.

Waoh! : Joselyn Dumas Falls On Stage In Denrele Edun's High Shoes (Photos)

This happened last night during the launch of Channel O ONews Live in Ghana. *lol*
Ghanaian actress and television hostess Joselyn was ‘embarrassed’ after falling on stage last Sunday during the shooting and recording of Channel O’s O News Live in Ghana.

Channel O’s VJ Denrele Edun who co-hosted the event had invited Joselyn Dumas and her fellow actress Yvonne Okoro on stage for an interaction.
In a Truth or Dare segment, Joselyn offered to be dared.

Denrele then took off his gigantic shoes and dared her to wear, which she did. Joselyn walked and danced in the shoes for a while and then the unfortunate happened when she couldn’t move again and fell heavily on the stage.
